Dr. Byron Jackson, DSW, is the founder of Palmetto Civics and a recent graduate of the University of Southern California, where he earned a Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) with a specialization in Political Social Work, focusing on rural political engagement.
At Diasporic Healing, he has stepped into the role of Civic Engagement Consultant, where he will support in research, advocacy, and training on political social work and civic engagement specifically for social workers and health professionals.
A proud South Carolina native, Byron has dedicated his career to increasing political participation among Black youth, particularly in underserved and rural communities.In addition to his Doctorate in Social Work, Byron also holds Master of Arts in Public Policy from New England College and is a proud alumnus of Howard University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.
With over 16 years of experience in youth-centered civic engagement and organizational development, Byron brings a cross-sector, interdisciplinary lens to political activism, strategy, and innovation. He has led the development of community-driven programs that integrate service-learning and civic engagement across universities, national education institutions, and grassroots organizations—advancing political awareness and participation through inclusive, impact-oriented initiatives.
Outside of his professional work, Byron enjoys barbecuing, fishing, and watching college football.
